One Step Closer: Stand with Servicewomen

The Shaheen amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) passed with bipartisan support in the Senate, and is facing its final step in Congress before being signed into law. We need you to speak out now to push this historic legislation over the finish line.

Women who choose to serve in the armed forces deserve the same rights as any other woman — including the right to make the most personal, most private medical decisions. Though as many as 19,000 military women are sexually assaulted each year, they are denied insurance coverage for abortion even in cases of rape and incest. If an active-duty soldier becomes pregnant as a result of rape, she is told, "You're on your own." That's unfair and unacceptable — and we have a chance to change it.

Stand with servicewomen and against this unfair law. Tell your members of Congress to protect the Shaheen amendment in the final NDAA.

Don't turn your back on servicewomen

Dear [Decision Maker],

I urge you to stand up for the brave, dedicated women who serve in our armed forces by ensuring that the Shaheen amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) remains in the final bill.

We have a responsibility to the women who bravely serve in uniform. Please ensure the Shaheen Amendment remains in NDAA as an important step toward meeting that responsibility.

Sincerely,
