The Texas House State Affairs Committee has approved five dangerous anti-abortion bills this legislative session.
House Bill 434 by Rep. Ron Simmons (R-Denton) will eliminate the "wrongful birth" cause of action and take legal recourse away from a woman for whom vital information about a pregnancy was withheld.
House Bill 200 by Rep. Cindy Burkett (R-Garland) bans the donation of fetal tissue from abortion clinics for scientific research. House Bill 35 by Rep. Byron Cook (R-Corsicana) requires the burial or cremation of fetal tissue. Both are intended to shame and stigmatize abortion.
House Bill 2962 by Rep. Giovanni Capriglione (R-Keller) requires additional extensive reporting related to abortion complications by licensed abortion facilities despite the fact that abortion is one of the safest medical procedures performed in the United States and that Texas already has robust reporting systems in place.
House Bill 1936 by Rep. Drew Springer (R-Gainesville) is yet another attempt by Texas legislators to eliminate access to care at Planned Parenthood and other abortion providers in the state by barring them from receiving any government funds whatsoever. The scope of this bill is breathtakingly vast and, if enacted, could result in another wave of clinic closures.
Tell the House Calendars Committee that Texans don't want to see more bills that chip away at reproductive health and rights advance one step further.
Stop the attacks on women's health!
Dear [Decision Maker],
Texans do not support bills that create another dangerous intrusion into the doctor-patient relationship, restrict access to critical reproductive health care, or shame women for making the personal medical decisions that are best for her and her family. Stop HB 434, HB 200, HB 35, HB 2962, and HB 1936 from advancing one step further.
Sincerely,[Your Name] [Your Address] [City, State ZIP]
